BE CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE IN GETTING HELPERS

To make it well in academics you need helps. Helpers abound at various levels of academics. Help is the foundation or substructure that supports and sustains the super structure of an excellent academic life. Ask any successful person in academics and even in life, he or she will reel out stories of helps they received at various bends and turns of life. Seek help, go out to get helpers that will build you. Helpers can be grouped into various segments: let’s examine some of them.

PARENTS AS HELPERS: Abraham Lincoln described as the most popular and most successful president in the history of America said, “All what I have become I owe to my angel mother”, Michael Wum brand became a voracious reader at the age of four as a result of his father spending hours everyday to teach him at cradle. I have spoken of what my father told me, he made me understand I TOO CAN. Many parents are angels to their children; they spare no labour off to see that their children excel academically. I met a professor in one of our leading public Universities in Nigeria, who told me that he follows his son every day to school to ensure that his son enters classroom for the day’s lecture. Later I heard that one if his sons made a first class. Don’t ignore parents as helpers. Don’t underestimate parents as helpers. Don’t take parental help for granted. Next to God are your parents as helpers, they know you more than anyone else. They have undiluted interest in your success. No one can groom and cultivate you like your parents. A Yoruba adage says “Kosieni to le mowo bi olomo” I.e. “No one can raise a child like the parents.”

LECTURER AS HELPERS: Almost all students of today ignore these reservoirs of knowledge. Lecturers are virtually inexhaustible sources of quality, relevant and direct helps. Your lecturers are your partners in progress. Make wise use of them. They are there for you. You are the reason for their employment.

Your religious leaders and the fellowship members

 Be creative and innovative in getting helpers. All these are helpers you can intelligently seek help from. Today seek help that will move you forward in your quest to reach the top.
